Established in 2004, Ol Pejeta has evolved from a working cattle ranch into a pioneering model combining wildlife conservation, community development, tourism, and cattle ranching. When responsibly managed, cattle can exist in harmony with nature as an ecological tool that improves soil health, habitat quality, and contributes to carbon sequestration. Our commercial enterprises mean that our model has resilience ‘built-in,’ enabling us to re-invest in our work and buffer external challenges, offering lessons for landscapes across Africa. Notably, we are one of only five conservancies in Africa to receive IUCN Green List status, an honour that recognizes the benefits of our work for people and nature in a fair and balanced manner and that places the conservancy as one of the most important wildlife landscapes in Kenya and Africa. We are proud of our long-standing partnerships with leading national and international partners such as the Kenyan Wildlife Service (KWS), Arcus Foundation, Fauna & Flora (F&F), the UK and US Governments, who provide crucial conservation expertise and financial support.
